The secret to keeping your home and your family safe is always knowing who’s inside your house. With access control systems, homeowners always know if someone enters their home, and they can easily make sure that only the right people get inside.

For most people, the phrase “access control systems” sounds like a synonym for “alarm systems.” In truth, access control systems are much more useful and full-featured than simple alarms. They give homeowners multi-tiered control over all entryways to their home, so that you can keep the good guys inside and the bad guys outside, no matter where you are.

The Basics of Access Control

These systems come with a range of possible features, so there is no single description that covers every system. Yet no matter what type of system you choose, there are a few basic aspects you can count on.

Access control configurations include peripherals to monitor every door and window on your house. If you have alternative entries, like crawlspaces, those are monitored too.

Via the system control panel, you can arm the system, alerting it that no one should enter. If anyone does, your alarm will sound and your monitoring service will be notified.

Advanced Features

Atlanta access control systems don’t stop with alarms, though. You can also remotely monitor your house—for instance, checking how many people have entered and exit via online control panels. If you’re away and notice an abnormal number of entries and exits, you may want to investigate.

With some advanced systems, you can even let people into your house remotely. Once you authorize entry, the system will remotely unlock your door and let your visitor in. This is very handy if you ever have guests arrive while you are away.

Temporary Access

You can take your control to another level with “permission controls.” Some advanced systems let you create temporary keycards, which are given to guests so they can enter and exit at their leisure. After the guest leaves, the keycard is deactivated and no longer usable.

Unlike standard keys, keycards are impossible to replicate. You can loan them to friends, neighbors, even contractors, and then toggle them on and off as necessary. In case you ever get locked out, leave one keycard with a neighbor, but toggle it off. When you’re locked out, simply go online, activate the key, and then get your neighbor to let you in. It’s fast, easy, and risk-free.

For security conscious homeowners, access control systems are the new, high-tech way to take complete control of your home. And not only do they boost your home security, they are also very convenient any time you need to let people in and out of your house.
