Have you decided that you’d like to make some home improvements yourself, and are thinking that perhaps it’s time to revive your cabinets in your kitchen or bathroom so they have that brand new appearance?  It’s a great idea, but maybe it’s not the sort of project you’ve ever tackled before, and so you’re not entirely sure how to begin the process of refacing and you’re certain you’re going to need some instructions on how to do so just right.  Here’s a brief rundown of the process of refacing that you can use as starter instructions.

First, refacing your cabinets yourself is a financially sound idea, as having these items replaced can cost thousands of dollars in some cases, depending on how many cabinets need work.  Additionally, it’s a reasonably easy project and if you’re only working with a small number of cabinets, it will only take you a couple of days to finish.  Of course, if you have many cabinets to work on, it will take longer, but that should be obvious.  To begin, you need to determine which cabinets you’re going to work on and what exactly you want to do with them.  Let’s say that you’d like to replace the cabinet doors and create a whole new look for them.  You’ll need to take measurements of your doors to be certain you purchase the correct size for the replacements.  Once you’ve done that, you can move on to looking for and making your purchase.

Once the new doors have arrived, the first step is to remove the old doors and hinges.  Let’s also say that you’ve purchased new hardware to go with your doors, which would include brand new hinges and handles.  A good idea would be to purchase a handle template kit, which will include instructions on how to perfectly install your new handles with ease.  Attaching the new hinges will be a simple task as you’ll only need to screw them in to place, but you must be absolutely certain that they line up perfectly with the other portion of the hinge that’s mounted to the base.  It’d be awful to place your hinges only to discover they’re not lined up correctly, meaning you’ll have to go back and do it all over again.  So make your measurements and then make them again to be certain you’ve got it just right.  Use your handle template and follow the instructions for the installation of your new handles.

Once everything is installed, stand back and admire your new cabinet doors and take some pride in the fact that with a few simple refacing instructions, you completed a fantastic home improvement refacing project all your own.
