When a homeowner walks by their windows on a blustery winter day and can feel the cold wind blowing in, that means they should consider replacing them. After they install new windows, the first thing that they’ll notice is how much warmer their house feels. Then they’ll notice how much less they’re paying in fuel costs. Not only will their winter heating bills be less, but their summer cooling bills will decrease as well. Homeowners who haven’t looked at Windows in NJ for decades may be surprised at how much window construction has changed over the years.

All window frames used to be made of wood. In recent years contractors have started installing vinyl window frames on new construction. Vinyl is so much stronger than wood that the window frame can be much smaller. This allows homeowners to see a lot more out of their windows. When a contractor meets with a homeowner to discuss replacement windows, he’ll explain the benefits of the newer window frame materials.

Wood absorbs moisture and as the temperature changes the wood expands and contracts. Over time this breaks the seal between the house and the window frame. Vinyl does not readily absorb water. That means that the seal between the window and home stays tighter for a much longer time period. Many homeowners replaced wood clapboards with vinyl siding because it requires less maintenance. The same thing is true for vinyl window frames. The homeowner will never have to repaint them. If they get dirty they can use a hose or power washer to rinse them off. Newer windows have also been designed for easy cleaning. They usually have window panes that tilt in so that the outside of the window can be cleaned. That means that the homeowner will never have to get on a tall stepladder again to clean the outside of the window pane. Homeowners will also love how much quieter their home is. Energy-efficient windows have multiple panes of glass that have inert gas between them. This gas is a very effective noise insulator as well as keeping the home at a comfortable temperature.
